‘Academic Freedom’ in Indian Higher Education Settings

The expression ‘autonomy’ means freedom from external control and influence. But what students’ autonomy teachers’ constitute of has not been examined in detail the Indian higher education (HE) settings. It is observed that students teachers are often misleading misinterpreting concept as ‘legal freedom’ confused with ‘civil political rights’. This creates hurdle to achieve aims objectives HE institutions. Against this background, paper discusses relation between their academic set up. examines relationship ‘academic ‘university autonomy’. submits institutions be viewed freedom’. adopts qualitative methodology subsumes descriptive, evaluative interpretative approaches derive its conclusion for academics consideration further critical examination.
